Final JobFest Events Offer Employment Opportunities
(Bakersfield, CA) – The Kern County Department of Human Services 2013 JobFest Series will wrap up this month with two
final events in Bakersfield and Lake Isabella. Over 1000 available positions will be represented at these final two
JobFest events!
Bakersfield JobFest takes place Tuesday May 14th at the Marriott Hotel, 801 Truxtun Avenue, in Bakersfield from
9:00 A.M. – Noon. Bakersfield’s unemployment rate is currently at 9.5%. Over 1000 available positions will be
represented by 85 employers participating in this year’s Bakersfield JobFest!
Lake Isabella JobFest takes place Wednesday, May 15th from 9:00 A.M. - Noon at the Lake Isabella Senior Center,
6405 Lake Isabella Blvd. Lake Isabella unemployment rate is currently at 16.0%.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month
(Bakersfield, CA) – The Kern County Department of Human Services, along with all of our community and professional partners
serving the needs of Kern County’s foster children, is celebrating May as National Foster Care Month. Foster Care month gives
us the opportunity to celebrate both foster children and the dedicated individuals & professionals who open their hearts and
homes to care for the 2,300 children in foster care here in Kern County.
There are many exciting events planned highlighting Foster Care in May. First, the Kern County Board of Supervisors will proclaim
May as Foster Care Awareness Month on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013, at 9:00AM. We invite all of our community partners to join us at
the Board of Supervisors Chambers for this important event.

Flag Ceremony Honors The Memory Of Children Lost To Child Abuse
(Bakersfield, CA) - The Kern County Department of Human Services (DHS) will join Kern County Supervisor Mick Gleason,
the Child Welfare League of America and Social Service Agencies across our Nation in calling for the immediate cessation
of violence against children in America. On Friday, April 26th, a memorial flag will be raised in Kern County to remember
the thousands of children lost nationwide, and in the last year, to violence.
The flag will be raised at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 in front of the Ridgecrest Field Office for Supervisor Mick
Gleason, located at the County Building in Ridgecrest, 400 N. China Lake Blvd., Ridgecrest, CA 93555. The community is welcome
to join us in this Memorial Ceremony.

JobFest Series Offers Employment Opportunities
(Bakersfield, CA) - The Kern County Department of Human Services is pleased to announce it’s 2013 JobFest Series, bringing
employment opportunities to every region of Kern County. With Kern County’s overall unemployment rate as of February at 13.6%,
the JobFest series is just one way DHS works to improve the lives of children and families throughout Kern County.
The Lamont Tri-Area JobFest takes place Wednesday, April 17th from 9:00 A.M. - Noon at the David Head Center,10300 San Diego St.
Lamont’s unemployment rate remains at 24%.
Ridgecrest JobFest takes place Friday, April 26th at SpringHill Suites Marriott, 113 East Sydnor Avenue in Ridgecrest from
9:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Ridgecrest’s unemployment rate is 7.8%
Bakersfield JobFest takes place Tuesday May 14th at the Marriott Hotel, 801 Truxtun Avenue, in Bakersfield from 9:00 A.M. – Noon.
Bakersfield’s unemployment rate is currently at 9.5%
Lake Isabella JobFest takes place Wednesday, May 15th from 9:00 A.M. - Noon at the Lake Isabella Senior Center, 6405 Lake Isabella
Blvd. Lake Isabella unemployment rate is currently at 16.0%

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
(Bakersfield, CA) - The Kern County Department of Human Services (DHS) will join the Child Welfare League of America and
Social Service Agencies across our Nation in calling for the immediate cessation of violence against children in America.
On Friday, April 5th, a memorial flag will be raised in Kern County to remember the thousands of children lost nationwide,
and in the last year, to violence.
The flag will be raised at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 in front of the Human Services Building at 100 East California
Avenue. The community is invited to join us in this Memorial Ceremony. The flag will be flown throughout the entire month of
April.

(Bakersfield, CA) - The Kern County Department of Human Services is pleased to announce it’s 2013 JobFest Series, bringing
employment opportunities to every region of Kern County. With Kern County’s overall unemployment rate at 14.1%, the JobFest
series is just one way DHS is working to improve the lives of children and families in our communities.
Shafter JobFest will take place next Thursday, March 28th, from 9:00 am – Noon at the Shafter Veterans Hall, 309 California
Avenue. Shafter’s unemployment rate is 24.7%. Taft JobFest takes place on Wednesday, April 3rd at the Taft Veterans Memorial
Building, 218 Taylor Street in Taft from 9:00 am until Noon. Taft’s unemployment rate is 13.9%. Lamont JobFest takes place on
Wednesday, April 17th from 9:00am - Noon at the David Head Center, 10300 San Diego St. Lamont’s unemployment rate is 24.8%.
Ridgecrest JobFest will take place on Friday, April 26th at SpringHill Suites Marriott, 113 East Sydor Avenue in Ridgecrest
from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Ridgecrest’s unemployment rate is 8.1%.
